Sevierville, TN Real Estate & Homes for Sale

Sevierville

Created back in 1794 by John Sevier, Sevierville has a long history dating back to when James McMahon donated 25 acres for a town square in the center of town. The tract was parceled out into half-acre lots that purchasers were required to build a brick, framed, or stone structures on, in the early 19th century, Knoxville and Nashville were connected by route 17 giving cattle drivers greater access to markets along the East Coast. Over the next 100 years, more roads and access points were developed but a tragic fire in 1856 took down the recently constructed courthouse, 41 houses, and several shops.

But in the years to come, more homes and buildings were constructed and now several are listed on the National Register Of Historic Sites including the post office, Masonic Lodge, the Harrisburg covered bridge [pictured], and several homes. Rich in history, steeped in agriculture and trade routes, Sevierville has long been a landmark in the Knoxville Metro area.

One of our big claims to fame is being the birthplace of country superstar Dolly Parton. As a top family vacation spot, Sevierville not only makes a great tourist town but a great place to live as well. Most folks feel that your Smoky Mountain adventure starts here with theme parks, national parks, hidden gems, great deals, and lots of space to breathe. It’s also been rated as the #3 best places to live in the county for excellent schools, diversity, and nightlife.

Like many other towns and cities along the Parkway, Sevierville has reaped the benefits of the tourism industry brought on by the development of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nearly 50% of businesses based in the town were linked to tourism in the early 2000s. The Tourism Development caps zone is a 3 mi.² tract of land to improve the central business district.
